Ten students have been awarded the “Professor Sitara Parvin Award” for achieving outstanding results in the 2023 BSS (Honours) examination of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at the University of Dhaka (DU).
On Sunday, DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Syama Haque Bidisha attended the ceremony as chief guest at the Professor Mozaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium inside the campus and handed over the award to students.
The event was chaired by Acting Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Professor Taiyebur Rahman. The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam delivered a speech as the guest speaker.
At the event, Professor Syama stated that this award is meant to inspire students to advance further. Paying deep respect to the memory of the award’s namesake, she said that the award is a way for students of the new generation to learn about her contributions.
The award-winners were Azra Humayra, Muhammad Muzzammil Haque, Abir Ferdous Ayon, Kouritra Podder Tirtha, Asrifa Sultana Reya, Sumaiya Jahan, Afrina Sultana, Bandhan Dev, Afrin Jahan, and Md Rafiuzzaman Labib.
Professor Sitara Parvin was the daughter of former President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed and the wife of Professor Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism. She died in a road accident in the United States on 23 June 2005.
