Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members arrested two alleged drug traffickers and seized 1.71 lakh pieces of yaba tablets during a drive at Shilkhali checkpost in Cox’s Bazar.
The arrestees are Md Firoz, 35, son of the late Montaz of New Pallan Para, Ward No. 4 in Teknaf, and Md Faisal, 20, son of Abdul Hamid of Naisingpara village.
According to BGB, members of Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB) stopped a fish-laden mini pickup travelling from Teknaf to Cox’s Bazar at around 7:30pm on Tuesday.
They conducted a search and found 20 packets wrapped in black and khaki adhesive tape hidden inside fish drums. The packets contained 171,200 yaba tablets.
BGB members detained the pickup driver Firoz and his assistant Faisal at the scene. They also seized the vehicle used in smuggling.
During initial questioning, the detainees said they had collected the yaba tablets from Lama Bazar in Teknaf. They were transporting the consignment to Jatrabari in Dhaka for delivery.
Legal proceedings against the detainees are underway at Teknaf Model Police Station.
Lieutenant Colonel Md Zahirul islam, commanding officer of Ukhiya Battalion, said “BGB has increased intelligence surveillance to identify drug suppliers and smugglers.”
He added that the force remains firm in preventing drug trafficking and other cross-border crimes. Such drives will continue in the future.
Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB), under the Ramu Sector of Cox’s Bazar region, has long been engaged in maintaining border security and curbing illegal activities, including drug trafficking.
Officials said these anti-narcotics operations continue to restore confidence among residents of Teknaf.
