Bangladesh will be without opener Shadman Islam for the second Test against Pakistan, with Zakir Hasan called up as his replacement after Shadman suffered a chest injury during the first match in Mirpur. The Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed on Thursday that Shadman will miss the Sylhet Test, which starts on May 16.
Shadman was injured while taking a catch in the opening Test. Team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said the batter has a chest contusion and is still in pain.
“Shadman took a blow in the chest while taking a catch during the first Test in Mirpur. He has a traumatic contusion of the chest and is in pain. He will not be available for the second Test unfortunately.”
Zakir returns to the Test squad after last playing in November 2024. The left handed opener now has an important chance to strengthen Bangladesh’s batting line-up.
Bangladesh head to Sylhet with confidence after taking a 1-0 lead in the two match series with a win in Mirpur.
The hosts will now look to overcome Shadman’s absence and push for a historic series victory on home soil.
Pakistan, meanwhile, must respond in Sylhet to avoid a series defeat.
