Bangladesh set Pakistan 194 to win on the final day of the Mirpur Test after declaring their second innings on 240 for nine at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Pakistan are on 74 for 3, still needing 194 runs with maximum 59 overs left, after Bangladesh closed their innings earlier in the morning session.
Taskin Ahmed struck early in the chase when he removed Imam-ul-Haq in the first over, caught behind. Pakistan’s top order then tried to rebuild through Abdullah Faizal and Azan Awais, who added a 50-run stand from 65 balls.
Azan fell for 15 after Mehidy Hasan Miraz broke through with a sharp off-stump delivery. The second wicket partnership ended on 67 off 54 balls, slowing Pakistan’s progress.
Pakistan then lost captain Shan Masood for two, caught behind off Nahid Rana. That left the visitors three down for 72.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh added 88 runs for the loss of six wickets before declaring. Najmul Hossain Shanto led the innings with 87 off 150 balls, after his first-innings century of 101. Mominul Haque added 56, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz contributed 24.
Shanto fell short of a second milestone in the match when he was trapped LBW by Noman Ali while attempting a reverse sweep.
Noman reached a personal landmark in the innings, taking his 100th Test wicket. He became the oldest player in Test history to reach the mark at 39 years and 213 days.
Pakistan now face a steep chase on a wearing Mirpur surface, with Bangladesh needing seven wickets to close out the Test.
