A youth was shot and injured by unidentified assailants in Shahidnagar area of Lalbagh in the capital on Thursday night.
The victim was identified as Md Rafi Hossain,26, son of Md Taijuddin, resides in Shahidnagar Lane 2. His family members stated that he works as a T-shirt printing artisan and sells his products online.
He is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The incident took place around 8pm near the Beribadh area of Shahidnagar Lane No. 3.
According to Md Sajib, who brought the victim to the hospital, a group of local youths initially approached him while he was alone and questioned him regarding the whereabouts of an individual named Shahin.
When Sajib claimed he did not know the person, the youths reportedly assaulted him.
Sajib subsequently left the scene and returned with Rafi from his residence. Upon their arrival at the spot, one of the attackers identified as Emon allegedly opened fire with a pistol.
He further claimed that Rezaul, Mintu, Shahabuddin, and 8 to 9 others were present during the incident.
Following the shooting, the attackers fled the scene, he added. Rafi sustained a bullet wound in his right rib area and was later taken to the hospital.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the victim is receiving treatment in the hospital’s emergency department. He added that the matter has been reported to Lalbagh Police Station for further investigation.
