Detectives have arrested a 22‑year‑old youth in Naogaon on charges of sexually harassing a student.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Tarikul Islam confirmed the arrest on Monday morning.

The suspect, Kazi Abdullah Fuad, son of Nazrul Islam of Santahar Janacolony in Adamdighi upazila of Bogura, was taken into custody. Police also seized the motorcycle used by the suspect during the incident.

According to police, the incident occurred on 16 August when the victim, a student of Naogaon Government College, left her mess to attend a tuition class.

When she reached ATM Field Lane, an unidentified motorcyclist approached her from behind, sexually harassed her, and fled the scene.

A few days later, the victim went to the Naogaon SP’s office and reported the incident. Taking her complaint seriously, SP Tarikul Islam immediately directed the Detective Branch to identify and arrest the perpetrator.

A DB team analyzed artificial intelligence (AI) camera data for five consecutive days to identify the suspect and the motorcycle. They then conducted raids in Naogaon and Adamdighi in Bogura, arresting Fuad from Santahar.

Police said legal proceedings have been initiated against Fuad under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

SP Tarikul stated that district police will take a strict stance against all forms of violence and sexual harassment against women and children, whether on roads or elsewhere, in accordance with the law. He added that no one involved in such offences would be spared under any circumstances.
