Towhid Hridoy has urged greater patience in evaluating players’ performances, criticising the tendency to elevate individuals rapidly before discarding them just as quickly.
Parvez Hossain Emon has been among the standout performers with the bat in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, despite batting in several different positions. Tanzid Hasan Tamim, meanwhile, has struggled for consistency. Hridoy himself has enjoyed a productive run at the top of the order and struck another century on Sunday.
However, despite his strong form in the BPL, Hridoy made it clear that he is not considering an opening role for the national team.
Speaking at the post-match press conference following the win against Noakhali, Hridoy said, “I feel that people lift someone up very quickly, and then bring someone down just as quickly. From a player’s perspective, I would request everyone to show a bit of patience. Over the last year, they have all performed well.”
He added that national team selection is not currently on his mind. “I can’t say what will happen in the national team. There are many top-order batters there who have played well over the past year. Right now, this is not something I am thinking about. I don’t know what the team management is planning.”
Hridoy stressed that players who have delivered consistently deserve continued trust. “Those who have done well for a long time should definitely be backed. I hope they will represent our country well, insha’Allah,” he said.
Responding to a question on whether Litton Das had advised him to bat in the middle order at the World Cup, Hridoy said, “No, Litton bhai didn’t give me any such message. What he told me was that if everything goes well, I will bat in the middle order at the World Cup, insha’Allah. He advised me to try it, because playing in the middle order would be good practice for me. Middle-order batting is a different challenge, and it is not easy.”
