Bangladesh’s women’s cricket programme, which has been under intense scrutiny in recent weeks after former captain Jahanara Alam’s explosive allegations, moved into a new phase on Monday when newly appointed women’s department chair Rubaba Dowla met the Under-19 squad in Mirpur.
Rubaba arrived at the office building of the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in the late afternoon, where she introduced herself to the players ahead of their departure for Cox’s Bazar. The Bangladesh Under-19 side is scheduled to face Pakistan in a series beginning on 30 November, and the meeting marked the first formal interaction between the new chair and the squad.
During the session, Rubaba exchanged greetings with the players and assured them that the board would provide full support and access to necessary facilities. She later joined the team captain for a brief jersey unveiling, signalling a reset in tone as the group prepares for the upcoming series.
The visit followed the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s decision to form an inquiry committee to investigate the recent allegations of sexual harassment, a move that has placed the women’s game at the centre of national attention.
