Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said the current Election Commission is facing new and ongoing challenges.
He made the remark during a dialogue with election experts at the Election Commission (EC) office in Agargaon, Dhaka on Tuesday.
Nasir Uddin said, “In 1991, social media was not as prevalent as it is now. Today, we are facing new challenges regularly. On one hand, we must address these challenges, and on the other hand, as you are aware, we are heading into elections under a special government in a unique situation.”
He further added, “In this critical time for the country, we view this responsibility as our last opportunity. We want to contribute to the nation. There is nothing more I seek. Our goal is to give the nation a credible and fair election.”
The CEC also called for cooperation from all sectors in the electoral process.
The dialogue was attended by four other Election Commissioners: Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah, Begum Tahmida Ahmed, Abdur Rahmanel Masud, and Md Anwarul Islam.
