Sarjis Alam, chief organiser (northern region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has warned “they will see how elections are held” without the allocation of Shapla symbol to the party.
He has also criticised the Election Commission (EC) for its failure to allocate “Shapla” to the party.
The NCP leader made the criticism in his Facebook post on Tuesday after the EC denied allocating “Shapla” to the party as its electoral symbol.
Earlier, the NCP had applied to take “Shapla” flower as its symbol in the national election.
However, the EC declined the request, stating that the flower is not included in the EC’s official list of electoral symbols.
The NCP’s demand for Shapla symbol has also drawn criticism as it Shapla) is the national flower of Bangladesh and part of the state emblem.
At a press conference on Tuesday, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed clarified, “There is no scope to allocate ‘Shapla’ as NCP’s party symbol. Since it is not on the EC’s list of 115 approved symbols, the party must choose an alternative.
According to the rules, political parties must select symbols only from the approved list.
