Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty said the team wants more than good performances at the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. She said the players are now focused on winning matches and believe they can do better than in previous tournaments.

The Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales will start on June 12. Bangladesh will leave Dhaka ahead of time as part of their preparations. The team will travel to Scotland tomorrow to play a tri series before the main event.

Joty said the squad now has more players who can step up and make an impact.

“The players have a hunger within them. It is not only about playing well on a stage like the World Cup, we want to win matches. From that point of view, I think this time we are moving forward with a target of winning at least two to three matches.”

She also feels the team has become stronger in the T20 format because of the rise of several consistent performers.

“The current state of the team is also different. A few cricketers have become much more consistent. Especially in the T20 format, they are playing very good cricket individually. So if we can play good cricket collectively as a team on a big stage like the World Cup, then it is definitely possible to achieve better results compared to previous World Cups,” she said.

Bangladesh won only one match in the previous T20 World Cup. Joty believes things can change this time because the team no longer depends on only a few players.

“In the last T20 World Cup, we won one match in Dubai. After that, we played on some good wickets too, but we could not win matches. However, compared to last year, I feel we now have a better chance of winning more matches. I think more new performers have joined the team, which was not the case before.”

“Earlier, the team relied heavily on one or two players. But now several cricketers are coming through and contributing regularly to the team’s performances,” she added.

The Bangladesh skipper also said she is happy with the team’s preparation ahead of the World Cup.

“If I talk about preparation, before previous ICC tournaments we usually did not get enough international series or sufficient matches. That was always a matter of regret for us. But this time the situation is different. We have already played three matches against Sri Lanka and we will play four more matches in the upcoming tri series. So from a preparation point of view, it could hardly be more ideal.”

Joty added that Bangladesh will also play two warm up matches before the main tournament.

“We are also getting two warm up matches from the ICC. Altogether, we have enough time and opportunities to prepare the team properly before entering the main tournament.”
