Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has called upon the officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs to work with transparency and accountability and work towards building a corruption-free home ministry.
The newly appointed home minister made the call while speaking as the chief guest at an introduction and exchange of views meeting with the ministry’s officials on his first working day, held in the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon.
The minister said, “We want to build the Ministry of Home Affairs as a corruption-free ministry.”
He stated that officials must work maintaining accountability and transparency. “No kind of illegal lobbying will be tolerated. If anyone is involved in a crime, an investigation will be conducted immediately and action will be taken.”
Salahuddin further said, “We want to completely stop mob culture in Bangladesh. Mob culture is finished.” He added, however, that processions and rallies can be held to realise legitimate demands, and memorandums can also be submitted.
“We want to continue the democratic process.”
Later, during a briefing for journalists, the minister said, “The police must be made into friends of the people. The image of the police, which has been damaged, must be restored.”
Officials from various levels of the ministry participated in the meeting, which was presided over by Secretary (Routine Duty) of the Ministry of Home Affairs Md Delwar Hossain.
