Former Attorney General and BNP candidate for Jhenaidah-1, Asaduzzaman, has criticised a political party for making “heavenly promises” such as linking votes to tickets to paradise.
Speaking at an election rally in Lakshmandia village of Shailkupa Upazila on Friday afternoon, Asaduzzaman said “A party’s women activists were going door-to-door holding the Holy Quran, claiming that those who vote for them would gain entry to paradise.”
“Voters cannot be won with such sinful statements” he said. “Promises of this nature violate the electoral code of conduct and the law.”
Earlier, the former Attorney General held campaign rallies in several villages including Meengram and Abaipur.
The Shailkupa rally was attended by Shailkupa Upazila BNP General Secretary Humayun Babar Firoz, central Chhatra Dal leader Rubel Hossain, and other leaders and activists of the BNP and its allied organisations.
