Virat Kohli’s ODI return took another blow as he was dismissed for a duck for the second straight time in the series against Australia in Adelaide on Thursday.
This was the first time in his 304-match ODI career that Kohli fell for ducks in back-to-back matches. He had previously suffered the same fate in a Test and a T20I in Ahmedabad in 2021.
Kohli walked in after captain Shubman Gill’s dismissal but lasted only four balls. He was trapped leg-before by seamer Xavier Bartlett in the seventh over and chose not to review the decision. It was also the first time he got out for zero at one of his favourite overseas grounds.
India struggled for momentum early on after being asked to bat by Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh. Rohit Sharma made only six runs in his first 20 balls, his slowest start in an ODI since the 2019 World Cup.
