Freedom fighter and Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra singer Shibu Roy has died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
He breathed his last at 6:30am on Sunday, 13 September, after suffering complications from a stroke.
Shibu Roy was both a singer and composer. He also worked for many years as an artiste for Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television.
His death has cast a shadow of grief over the country’s cultural community.
Shibu Roy remained active in the cultural arena and served for a long time as the general secretary of the Awami Shilpi Goshthi. During the Liberation War, he played a notable role as an artiste of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.
He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter and numerous admirers and well-wishers.
His death has prompted an outpouring of grief among colleagues, fellow artistes and cultural figures. They have prayed for the departed artiste’s soul and expressed deep condolences to his bereaved family.
