The US Department of State has announced the phased closure of its Consulate General in Peshawar, shifting responsibility for diplomatic engagement with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the US Embassy in Islamabad.
The move reflects Washington’s commitment to the safety of diplomatic personnel and efficient resource management, according to a statement of the Department of State.
While the physical presence in Peshawar will end, the administration stressed that US policy priorities in Pakistan remain unchanged.
The State Department noted that the US Mission will continue to advance bilateral ties through its remaining posts in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore, focusing on economic cooperation, regional security and people‑to‑people engagement.
