US has allowed a number of Iranian oil tankers to transit through the Strait of Hormuz in a move aimed at sustaining global energy supplies, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said.
In an interview with CNBC, Bessent confirmed that several Iranian vessels had already navigated the strategic waterway, adding that Washington had authorised the passage to help stabilise oil supply in international markets.
He further noted that ships from India and potentially China had also crossed the strait.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most critical oil corridors in the world, with roughly 20% of global crude shipments passing through the narrow maritime route.
