Police have recovered the body of an unidentified man from a rented house in the Binnaguni area of Senbagh municipality in Noakhali district late Thursday night.
The deceased, believed to be around 40 years old, had been living alone in a ground-floor room of a two-storey building owned by a local resident, Shamsuddin.
During a search of the room, police recovered a set of army-style uniforms along with a black bag containing a nameplate bearing the name “Farhad”, deepening uncertainty over the man’s identity.
According to local sources, the man rented the room on 15 May, introducing himself as an employee of Senbagh Palli Bidyut. Although he initially claimed he would be staying with his family, he had in fact been living alone since moving in.
Residents said they saw him lying on the floor of his room on Thursday afternoon after he returned from a meal at a local hotel. Later that night, around 11pm, the landlord noticed that the room door was open. After repeated attempts to get a response failed, he informed neighbours, who then alerted police.
The discovery has sparked intrigue locally, as law enforcement agencies have so far been unable to confirm the man’s true identity or verify whether he had any genuine links to the Bangladesh Army or the Palli Bidyut office.
Senbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rahim said police had visited the scene to collect evidence.
“We are currently verifying the information gathered from the site. The body is being prepared for an autopsy and further legal procedures are underway,” he said.
