Pakistan A’s eight wicket win over India A in the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament in Doha on Monday was overshadowed by a disputed umpiring decision that drew sharp criticism from former Pakistan fast bowler Junaid Khan.

The controversy centred on a run out review in which a Pakistan fielder appeared to break the stumps before the Indian batter had grounded his bat. Despite the replay, television umpire Md Morshed Ali adjudged the player not out, a ruling that quickly circulated on social media. Posting a still image of the moment on his verified Facebook page, Junaid wrote, “How is this not out? Unbelievable umpiring. Cricket has become a joke.”

Junaid also congratulated Pakistan A on their victory, while repeating his frustration with the officiating. Sharing a photo of the players celebrating, he said, “Brilliant. Congratulations to the Pakistan Shaheens for the win against India despite some unreasonable decisions.”

India A were dismissed for 136 after choosing to bat, and Pakistan A chased the target with 40 balls to spare. On the same day Pakistan’s senior side recorded a comprehensive win over Sri Lanka, yet captain Shaheen Shah Afridi was more animated about the success of the A team against India. After the senior team’s six wicket win, he said, “The Pakistan Shaheens have beaten our neighbours. It is a big achievement for us.”

Pakistan A’s victory, routine in cricketing terms, now sits secondary to a moment of officiating that sparked fresh debate and added another layer of intrigue to one of the sport’s most emotionally charged rivalries.
