Two more children died while undergoing treatment with measles-like symptoms at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Thursday.
One of the deceased was an eight-month-old child from Sylhet city, while the other was a six-month-old infant from Sunamganj’s Shantiganj upazila.
Hospital Deputy Director Mahbubur Rahman said one child died around 6:00pm and the other about an hour later.
The latest deaths pushed the number of children who died from measles and similar symptoms in the Sylhet division to 22.
According to the Sylhet Divisional Office of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 233 patients with measles or measles-like symptoms had been admitted to hospitals across the division as of Thursday morning.
In the last 24 hours, laboratory tests confirmed eight new measles cases, while six more patients were admitted to hospitals with similar symptoms.
Another child died in Sylhet on Wednesday after showing measles symptoms, raising concerns over the growing outbreak in the division.
