Police have arrested two more individuals in connection with the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson for Inquilab Mancha and an independent candidate for Dhaka-8.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali confirmed the arrests On Sunday, although the names and identities of the detainees are yet to be disclosed. The DMP commissioner also revealed that the motorcycle used in the attack on Hadi has been seized.
Earlier in the day, Abdul Hannan, owner of the motorcycle used in the attack, was arrested. Hannan is a resident of Bagdanga West Para, Sundarpur Union, in Chapainawabganj Sadar. Hannan is a labourer by profession.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) stated that the motorcycle used in the attack on Osman Hadi has been identified. The motorcycle’s registration number is 54-6375, and it was seized from the Mohammadpur area of the capital.
In initial questioning, Hannan confirmed that he owned the motorcycle. Since it is the same motorcycle used in the attack, authorities suspect Hannan’s involvement in the shooting incident.
Further legal action is being taken, and the suspect has been handed over to the Paltan Model Police Station for further investigation.
On Friday afternoon, Osman Hadi was shot in the Box Culvert area of Bijoynagar, Dhaka. He is currently undergoing treatment in the coronary care unit (CCU) at Evercare Hospital in the capital. Protests have continued across the country since the incident.
