Border Guard Bangladesh detained two men in Jashore with gold bars worth Tk2.11 crore.
The operation was conducted early on Thursday at the Muradgarh bus stand area in Jashore Sadar.
According to the Jashore Battalion of BGB-49, a team carried out the raid based on secret information.
During the operation, they detained two person, Faridul Islam, 28 and Mahafuz Alam, 31.
A search of their clothing led to the recovery of 10 gold bars hidden inside their trouser pockets. The seized gold weighs 1.164 kilograms, valued at Tk 2,11,19,244.
During preliminary questioning, the detainees told BGB that they had planned to smuggle the gold to India via Jashore and Chowgacha.
They said they had collected the gold from smugglers in Dhaka’s Tantibazar area and were transporting it to Chowgacha for cross-border smuggling.
Faridul Islam is from South Chandpur village in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga, while Mahafuz Alam is from Bajipota village in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah.
A case has been filed against them, and they have been handed over to Jashore Kotwali Police Station.
Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqi, commanding officer of the Jashore Battalion, confirmed the seizure and the arrests.
