Police on Saturday morning recovered the hanging bodies of two individuals in separate incidents in Rajoir upazila of Madaripur district.
The deceased were identified as Rumi Begum, daughter of Sonamia Matubbar of Gobindapur village and wife of Malaysian expatriate Shipon Mollah of Gankandi Sakharpar village; and Arif Sheikh, a microbus driver and son of the late Saheb Ali Sheikh of Khalia village.
According to police, Rumi Begum’s body was found inside her residence in Sakharpar village under Ishibpur union. In a separate occurrence, Arif Sheikh’s body was discovered hanging from a tree in the courtyard of his home in Khalia village.
Upon receiving information from local residents, police recovered the bodies and dispatched them to the Madaripur 250-bed District Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Kutub Uddin Ahmed, Inspector (Investigation) of Rajoir Police Station, stated that legal action would be taken following the receipt of the autopsy reports. Preliminary police findings suggest that both individuals committed suicide as a result of family disputes.
