Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested two hunters with 21.5 kilograms of venison, along with a deer’s head, legs and hunting traps, from the Nalian area of the Sundarbans.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq disclosed the information on Saturday.
On a tip-off, the Coast Guard’s Nalian outpost carried out a special operation at around 2 am at the Muchir Doani canal adjacent to Nalian in the Sundarbans, under Dacope Police Station in Khulna.
During the operation, the Coast Guard recovered 21.5 kg of deer meat, one deer head, four legs and around 600 metres of deer-hunting traps, and detained two hunters from the area.
The seized meat and the detained individuals were handed over to the Nalian Forest Office for further legal action.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq said the Coast Guard will continue such operations to prevent wildlife killing and smuggling.
