Police, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit and SWAT recovered two bombs and arrested a young man during a joint operation in Dhaka’s Demra on Sunday evening.
Another young man was detained for questioning during the operation in West Boxnagar.
The operation was conducted around 5:30pm at the intersection of Gariber Newaz Mosque Road in the Nizhumbag area of West Boxnagar.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of CTTC and Anti-Terrorism Officers (ATO) conducted the operation.
They searched Md Jewel Bhuiyan, 26, after finding his movements suspicious and recovered two bombs, each about six inches long and wrapped in black tape, from his possession.

Jewel is the son of Abul Bhuiyan of Kajirchar village in Shibpur, Narsingdi.
Police also detained Arif Chowdhury, 24, son of Abdul Hai of Nizhumbag, from the scene for questioning.
Demra police and additional personnel rushed to the scene after being informed about the recovery.
The two suspects and the recovered bombs were later taken to Demra Police Station.
CTTC Additional Deputy Commissioner Mainuddin Chowdhury and the Additional Deputy Commissioner of the police’s Shyampur zone confirmed the incident to TIMES of Bangladesh, saying both bombs had been defused. They said one person was arrested and another detained.
Demra Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Taifur Rahman said police received information about the bombs around 5pm and subsequently alerted the bomb disposal unit.
Police said legal action against those involved would be taken under the relevant laws. The law and order situation in the area remained normal, they added.
