Police have arrested two brothers affiliated with the banned Awami League in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia for allegedly mobilising party activists and preparing khichuri ahead of 15 August.
The arrestees are Sohel Rana Paban, chairman of Bahadurpur Union Parishad and vice-president of the upazila Jubo League, and his brother Rubel Mahmud Ratan, president of the Bahadurpur Union unit of Swechhasebak League.
Police arrested them at around 11:30 pm on Friday from the Bahadurpur Union Parishad area near Kuchiamora Bazar in the upazila.
Police alleged that the two had been secretly carrying out organisational activities and trying to mobilise party activists ahead of 15 August, the 51st death anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Bheramara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Jahedur Rahman said the two were arrested to maintain law and order.
Further legal action would be taken against them, he added.
