Cameron Green completed a fighting century while Taskin Ahmed removed Mitchell Starc as Australia continued their resistance against Bangladesh on day four of the first Test in Darwin.
Australia reached 274/8, taking their lead to 46 runs, with Green unbeaten on 102 from 196 balls.
Green started the day on 44 and carried Australia’s hopes after Bangladesh made early breakthroughs. He stayed patient against the spinners before becoming more aggressive as the innings moved forward.
The Australian all rounder reached his century after lunch, completing a vital knock under pressure with his team fighting to stay in the Test.
Before that, Bangladesh made another important breakthrough through Taskin.
Starc had helped Green wipe out Bangladesh’s first innings lead and take Australia ahead. But Taskin ended the partnership when he found Starc’s outside edge.
Litton Das completed the catch behind the stumps as Starc departed for 18, leaving Australia on 250/8.
Green then continued the fight alongside Nathan Lyon. He moved into the 90s with a six over midwicket off Taskin.
Taskin almost removed him soon after when Green drove the ball back towards him. The pacer got his fingertips to the chance but could not hold on.
Green later reached three figures and remained unbeaten on 102 from 196 balls.
Bangladesh now need two wickets to end the innings, while Australia will look to Green to stretch their 46 run lead further.
