A Dhaka court has placed two associates of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s ex-military adviser Tarique Siddique on a three-day remand in connection with the murder of businessman Abdul Wadud in the capital’s New Market area.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam issued the order on Tuesday after police produced the accused before the court and sought further remand.
The accused are Md Chan Mia, driver of Tarique Siddique, and Md Mahidul Islam, his caretaker.
Earlier, both were on a four-day remand and were again produced before the court upon completion of that term.
Investigating officer Md Amzad Hossain Talukder, inspector of the Detective Branch’s Ramna Division, sought a fresh five-day remand.
After hearing, the court granted three days’ remand for each accused.
State prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi confirmed the matter.
According to the case statement, businessman Abdul Wadud was shot dead on 19 July, 2024, in Nilkhet area under New Market Police Station during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Following the incident, the victim’s brother-in-law Abdul Rob filed a murder case on 21 August, naming 130 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former minister Obaidul Quader.
Police arrested Md Mahidul Islam from Islampur in Thakurgaon and Md Chan Mia from the Bhashantek area of Dhaka on 19 April.
They were first placed on a four-day remand on 20 April, followed by a second four-day remand on 24 April.
