A Dhaka court on Friday directed the police to submit an investigation report by 1 September in a case filed over the brutal killing of a seven-month-old girl allegedly by her father in the capital’s Turag area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibuzzaman issued the order after accepting the First Information Report (FIR) of the case.
Sub-Inspector Helal Uddin of the prosecution department confirmed the development.
The victim, Rafa Mani, was reportedly slammed to the ground by her father, Kabir Islam, following a family dispute on Thursday evening.
According to the case statement, Kabir and Lima Akter got married two years ago and had a daughter, Rafia Moni.
Kabir, a rickshaw puller, had allegedly been addicted to drugs for a long time and frequently subjected his wife to physical abuse.
The complaint stated that Lima went with her daughter to visit her ailing father on Thursday. Later that evening, around 7pm, the couple became involved in an argument over a family matter at a house in Harun Molla’s slum area in Balurmath.
During the heated exchange, an enraged Kabir allegedly snatched the infant from her grandmother’s arms and slammed her onto the street.
The critically injured child was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where she succumbed to her injuries around 2:30pm on Friday while undergoing treatment.
Sub-Inspector Mehedi Hasan Faisal, the investigating officer from Turag Police Station, confirmed that Kabir Islam has been arrested.
The child’s grandmother Sarmin Akter filed case with the police station against Kabir on Friday.
