The long-cherished dream of the people of Naogaon is set to be realised as Naogaon University officially commences its academic activities this Saturday. The higher education institution in the northern region will begin its journey with the orientation of the first batch for the 2025-2026 academic session.
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon will attend the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest.
According to the university’s Acting Registrar, Sayem Bin Solaiman, the event will also be attended by special guests including State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam, Education Secretary Md Abdul Khaleque, UGC Chairman Professor Mamun Ahmed, UGC member Abdullah-al-Mamun, and Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) Director General Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel.
Local lawmaker, deputy commissioner, and superintendent of police will also be in attendance.
The day’s proceedings will begin at 10am at the university’s temporary campus at Barunkandi Mor with the hoisting of the national flag.
This will be followed by the release of pigeons and balloons, the unveiling of the inaugural plaque, and the formal opening of classrooms, the library, and laboratories.
A discussion meeting is scheduled for 11:00 am at the Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium, where a documentary about the university will be screened. In a symbolic gesture, students of the first batch will be welcomed with mango saplings.
The session will be presided over by Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Hasanat Ali.
The vice-chancellor informed that the university is starting its journey with 80 students, divided equally between the Law and Accounting departments. Eight faculty members have already joined, and the temporary campus has been equipped with all necessary academic facilities.
Regarding the permanent campus, Professor Hasanat Ali stated that 97 acres of land have already been acquired. A master plan has been designed to establish a modern, research-oriented campus.
He further noted that new departments would be introduced gradually to ensure international education standards, aiming to make Naogaon University a premier centre for agricultural and vocational education in northern Bangladesh.
