A truck was moving along its designated lane in the capital Dhaka late at night when suddenly a vehicle, reportedly carrying Officer-in-Charge (OC) of New Market Police Station, Mohsin Uddin, appeared from the wrong direction and blocked its path.
This encounter allegedly led to the truck driver and his assistant being beaten and taken into custody by the police.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Wednesday (April 23) at the Science Lab intersection, involving a delivery truck from the courier service ‘Pathao’. The driver, Milon, and his assistant, Sakib, remain in police custody.
According to Pathao officials, the truck was en route from its warehouse in Hazaribagh to Sylhet when the confrontation took place.
Dashcam footage from the vehicle shows the truck, traveling at approximately 30 km/h, coming to a sudden halt. The driver is heard saying, “Sir, your car came from the wrong side. I didn’t see it, it’s my mistake, sorry.”
Despite this, OC Mohsin allegedly exited his vehicle, physically assaulted the driver, and took both men along with their vehicle to the station around 3 a.m.
A Pathao representative claimed that after reviewing the dashcam footage, no fault was found on the driver’s part. He further alleged that it was the OC who acted wrongfully by approaching from the wrong direction and assaulting the driver.
When contacted, OC Mohsin Uddin claimed he was chasing another vehicle and was crossing the road when the truck appeared. “The driver was under the influence of cannabis,” he further claimed.
