A young deliveryman was killed after being crushed under the wheels of a speeding truck on the Satkhira-Shyamnagar road in Kaliganj upazila on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Abu Rayhan, 30, a resident of Katkhali village under Shyamnagar upazila. He was employed as a deliveryman for Hamko Company.
According to police and local sources, Abu Rayhan was travelling towards Nalta in the afternoon on a delivery van loaded with Hamko Company goods. Upon reaching the vicinity of the Kaliganj Filling Station, a speeding truck rammed the delivery van from behind, throwing him onto the road. He was run over by the truck and died on the spot.
Although local residents managed to seize the truck, the driver fled the scene.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police from Kaliganj Police Station arrived at the spot, recovered the body, and brought it to the station after preparing the inquest report.
Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahidul Islam confirmed the incident. He said the body has been sent to the Satkhira Sadar Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
The OC added that necessary legal procedures in connection with the accident are currently underway.
