Rail communication resumed after 14 hours in Pirgachha of Rangpur following the removal of four derailed coaches of the Padmarag Mail Train.
The train derailed around 11:30am on Tuesday, and services restarted at 2:30am Wednesday through line one, officials said. Efforts are underway to restore line two.
Thousands of passengers suffered as train movement on this route remained suspended throughout the day.
Pirgachha Railway Station Master said the Lalmonirhat-bound Padmarag Mail from Santahar reached the station around 12:30pm Tuesday. After a break, it derailed at the outer signal area when a line separator plate broke, causing four coaches to veer off the track.
No casualties were reported, but several passengers alleged that their belongings were lost during the incident. The train was carrying nearly 2,000 passengers.
The derailment disrupted intercity services, halting Rangpur Express, Lalmoni Express, Burimari Express, Kurigram Express, Dholonchapa, Korotoa, Padmarag, Ramsagor, commuter, and Nineteen Up trains.
From 4pm Tuesday to 2:30am Wednesday, about 100 workers from the engineering, traffic, and signal departments of Lalmonirhat Railway Division worked to move the derailed coaches from the first line to the second line.
After that, train services resumed on one track, while repairs on the second are still in progress.
