The interim government is taking steps to make tourism in Bangladesh more secure, enjoyable, and accessible, said Commerce and Tourism Adviser Sk Bashiruddin on Saturday.

He made the remarks while inaugurating a colourful rally in front of the Tourism Building at Agargaon in Dhaka to mark World Tourism Day 2025.

The rally, which started at 9:30am, was held under this year’s theme “Tourism and Sustainable Development.”

Representatives from tourism-related organisations and officials from different parts of the country took part in the event, raising slogans that reflected the aspirations and challenges of the industry.

Adviser Bashiruddin noted that the government is working to establish new tourism destinations at affordable costs while maintaining high standards of safety and visitor experience.

“We are focusing on developing new spots at reasonable prices, using resources wisely. Codes of conduct are being introduced at tourist sites to safeguard visitors’ rights and ensure a safe environment,” he said.

Highlighting the ethical side of tourism, he stressed that financial gains should not come at the expense of fairness and integrity.

“Economic benefits are important, but they are not the priority. Tourists must not be cheated under any circumstances, and we will make sure of that collectively,” he added.

Following the rally, Bashiruddin attended a discussion session where speakers presented a series of proposals, particularly calling for stronger safety protocols to protect travellers across the country.
