Pallabi police have arrested a so-called “top terrorist” accused in four murder cases, as well as cases of abduction, explosives and narcotics, from the Pallabi area of the capital.
The arrestee was identified as Md Kallu, also known as Mostakim Hossain and Boma Kallu, 37, Pallabi police said in a press release issued on Saturday.
Police said Kallu is a named accused in an abduction and murder case filed with Pallabi police station on 10 June last year.
Following the case, a team of Pallabi police carried out a raid on 7 January based on secret information, police sources said.
Sensing the presence of police, Kallu attempted to flee but fell and sustained serious injuries to his left leg. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
After being discharged from the hospital, he was produced before a court on Saturday, police said.
Police sources said six cases involving murder, abduction, explosives and narcotics against Kallu are currently under trial in court, while another case is under investigation at Pallabi police station.
According to police, Kallu had long been involved in abducting businesspeople and people from different walks of life and looting goods by openly threatening them with weapons.
Police also said he carried out extortion by spreading panic through cocktail explosions in the Pallabi Bihari camp and nearby slum areas.
Police said such operations would continue to keep the law and order situation in the area under control.
