A Cumilla court today sent Hafizur Rahman, a former senior warrant officer of the army arrested in the Sohagi Jahan Tonu murder case, to jail following the completion of a three-day remand.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Abdullah Aman issued the order on Saturday afternoon, court sources said.
Investigation Officer (IO) Tarikul Islam produced Hafizur Rahman before the court after the remand period ended. The accused was interrogated during the remand, and the DNA cross-matching process is currently ongoing, the IO said.
Court sources have learned that Hafizur Rahman was among the three individuals identified as suspects for DNA sample testing in connection with the high-profile murder case.
Court Inspector Mamunur Rashid said that when the Criminal Investigation Department (PBI) produced the former senior warrant officer before the court, the judge ordered him to be sent to jail custody.
No new information has been obtained so far regarding the arrest of any other accused in this case, he added.
A Cumilla court had granted a three-day remand for Hafizur Rahman on Wednesday.
The PBI is currently investigating the case with priority to unravel the mystery of the 2016 sensational murder of Sohagi Jahan Tanu, a case that has drawn widespread public attention and scrutiny.
