Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan has formally inaugurated the excavation and cleaning of Tolarbagh canal in Mirpur, spanning from Mirpur Mazar Road to Gabtoli Main Road.
The launch took place at an event in the capital’s Mirpur area on Monday afternoon, where the administrator stressed the need for timely completion of the work without compromising quality.
“A liveable city is the foremost promise of DNCC,” Mr Khan said. “Public money must be spent properly on necessary sectors.”
He warned that contractors would not be allowed to take bills for substandard work, adding that all projects must be completed within the tender deadlines.
The DNCC chief further noted that he regularly visits work sites and approves bills only after seeing satisfactory progress.
Emphasising the need to keep canals clean to curb mosquito breeding, he urged citizens not to dump waste into the water, noting that stagnant garbage creates breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
On waste management for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, the administrator said Dhaka city would be cleaned within six hours on Eid day, with cleanliness drives running continuously for 72 hours.
Regional Executive Officer of Zone 4 Jalal Uddin presided over the event, also attended by DNCC Chief Engineer Brig Gen Syed Rakibul Hasan and other officials.
