A pall of grief has fallen over Nityanandapur village in Jhenaidah after 18‑month‑old Tanha was killed in an accident involving her father’s easy bike on Monday evening.
The accident happened around 5pm in the courtyard of her home in Harinakundu, where Tanha was playing with friends. She was the daughter of Miraj Hossain, the easy bike driver.
According to family members and local residents, several children had climbed onto the parked vehicle. A key left inside was inadvertently turned, causing the bike to roll backwards.
In panic, Tanha tried to jump off and run, but was caught under the wheels. Neighbours rushed her to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Fariha, a physician at the hospital’s emergency department, confirmed the child was brought dead. The body has been kept in the morgue.
Asit Kumar Roy, officer‑in‑charge (investigation) of Harinakundu Police Station, said that no formal complaint has yet been filed.
The sudden loss has devastated the family and shaken the village, where locals mourned the death of the toddler whose laughter had filled the courtyard only moments before.
