Popular Bangladeshi actor and director Sarker Raunak Ripon is set to appear in a completely new avatar as the lead antagonist in the much-anticipated feature film Shekor, which is scheduled for nationwide release on 31 July.
Known for balancing both acting and directing, Ripon takes on one of the most challenging roles of his career in the film, stepping into a complex villainous character.
Ahead of its domestic release, Shekor was screened at the Toronto Film Festival, where it received positive reviews.
The film’s international journey will continue with screenings in New York on 1 August and Canada on 2 August.
It is also slated for release in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and several other countries.
Speaking about the project, Sarker Raunak Ripon said the story and his character were impossible to turn down.
“I usually find myself behind the camera directing or portraying unconventional negative roles. But Shekor offered such a powerful and layered character that I couldn’t resist the challenge.
Focusing entirely on bringing the lead antagonist to life was an immensely rewarding experience. The film has already received a positive response at international festivals, and now I am looking forward to hearing what audiences in Bangladesh think. I hope the film resonates with everyone,” he said.
Written and directed by Prosun Rahman, Shekor features FS Nayeem, Ayesha Khan, Dilara Zaman, Somu Chowdhury, Nafis Ahmed, Nairuz Sifat, Sangeeta Chowdhury and Mahbubur Rahman in key roles.
The film will be released in cinemas across Bangladesh on 31 July.
