Nearly Tk20 crore has been allocated for the constituencies of opposition members of parliament, LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Monday.
Fakhrul had intended to make the statement at the closing of Sunday’s session. However, when opposition MPs staged a walkout after being denied the chance to speak on a point of order, he announced that he would present it on Monday instead.
However, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad opened the parliament session with remarks from Opposition Leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.
In his statement, Fakhrul said, “Our Honourable Prime Minister has approved nearly Tk20 crore from his fund for the constituencies of opposition members, excluding city corporations. The allocation is for mosques, graveyards, and Eidgahs.”
When opposition members raised questions, Fakhrul clarified, “This is from the district councils. City corporations will be included later.”
