It became the highest successful run chase in Under 19 Asia Cup history as Bangladesh chased down 284.
Bangladesh Under 19 pulled off a famous win against Afghanistan Under 19 in their first group match of the Youth Asia Cup. They won by three wickets and started the tournament with a big statement.
The match took place at the ICC Academy in Dubai. Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat first. Bangladesh made an early breakthrough through Saad Islam. He removed opener Khalid Ahmadzai cheaply. Afghanistan lost their first wicket inside the first 16 runs.
Osman Sadat and Faisal Shinozada then rebuilt the innings. They batted with control and kept the scoreboard moving. Their partnership helped Afghanistan recover. The stand ended at 82 runs when Samiun Basir Ratul dismissed Sadat. Sadat scored 34 runs from 50 balls.
Faisal Shinozada continued to bat with confidence. He reached a well earned century. His innings ended at 103 from 94 balls. Iqbal Hossain Emon took his wicket at a key moment.
Uzairullah Niazai and Mahboob Khan added more runs in the middle overs. Afghanistan looked set for a big total. Shahriar Ahmed changed the momentum by removing both batters in back to back overs. Niazai scored 44 from 55 balls. Mahboob made 13 from 19 balls.
Bangladesh bowled tightly at the end. The seventh wicket fell at 225. Azizullah Miakhil and Abdul Aziz added a late stand. They pushed Afghanistan beyond 250. Afghanistan finished on 283 for 7 from 50 overs. Abdul Aziz stayed not out on 26 from 16 balls. Miakhil remained unbeaten on 38 from 36 balls.
Iqbal Hossain Emon and Shahriar Ahmed took two wickets each for Bangladesh. Saad Islam, Samiun Basir Ratul and Rizan Hossan picked up one wicket each.
Bangladesh began the chase with Zawad Abrar and Rifat Beg. Both batters attacked from the start. They put the Afghan bowlers under pressure. The opening stand crossed 100 and then moved past 150.
The first wicket fell at 151. Rohullah Arab dismissed Rifat Beg. He scored 62 from 68 balls. Zawad Abrar stayed at the crease and kept the chase on track.
Captain Azizul Hakim came in at number three. Zawad moved close to his century but fell short. He scored 96 from 112 balls and got out at 170.
Kalam Siddiki joined Azizul Hakim next. They added important runs together. Kalam made 29 from 36 balls. Azizul Hakim scored 47 from 48 balls. Bangladesh lost their fourth wicket at 249.
The match became tense after that. Rizan Hossan and Md Abdullah tried to steady the innings. Bangladesh lost two more wickets in quick time. Pressure grew on the batting side.
Sheikh Parvez Jibon then played a quick cameo. He scored 13 runs from seven balls. Rizan held his nerve at the other end.
Bangladesh needed four runs from 12 balls. Three runs came from a wide delivery. Only one run was needed from eight balls. Shahriar Ahmed scored the winning run.
Bangladesh reached the target with seven balls left. Rizan Hossan remained not out on 17 from 13 balls. It was a record chase and a strong start to the Asia Cup for Bangladesh Under 19.
