According to the case statement, Faisal Karim Masud alias Rahul Daud and his associates allegedly maintained links with leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations and were involved in conspiracies to suppress the July 2024 mass uprising through violence.

The Awami League government was ousted following the July uprising, in which Sharif Osman Hadi played a prominent role. After the movement, Hadi formed the political and cultural platform Inqilab Mancha and began serving as its spokesperson.

The complaint states that Hadi had been outspoken in demanding a ban on the Awami League over alleged crimes against humanity, drawing threats from members of banned organisations. He reportedly received multiple death threats prior to the attack.

After the election schedule for the 13th National Parliamentary Election was announced on 11 December, Osman Hadi began election activities as a prospective independent candidate from Dhaka-8.

On Friday, while campaigning in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area, Hadi was shot by an assailant. The bullet struck his head, leaving him critically injured.

He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital as his condition worsened. Doctors described his condition as extremely critical, and on Monday he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced medical treatment.
