Three members of a Bangladeshi family were killed and two others injured in a tragic road accident in Saudi Arabia while they were on their way to Makkah to perform Umrah.
The accident took place on the Riyadh-Makkah highway at approximately 3pm Bangladesh time on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Tania Tahmina Rina, 45, her son Tasbik, 20, and her daughter Zara, 15. The injured are Tania’s husband, Shafiqul Islam Khokon, and their eldest son, Nabil.
According to the victims’ cousin Nasim Ahmed Kabir, the five members of the family left Riyadh for Makkah on Thursday morning. Their private car met with the accident after travelling approximately 300 kilometres. Tania Tahmina Rina, Tasbik, and Zara reportedly died at the scene.
The victims’ brother Touhid Mohammad Murad said preliminary information suggests a large vehicle struck the rear of their private car, causing the crash. The two injured survivors have been admitted to a hospital, though further details regarding their medical condition are currently unavailable.
Tania Tahmina Rina was the daughter of the late Nazimuddin Molla, a former chairman of Atghar Union in Saltha Upazila, Faridpur. Her husband, Shafiqul Islam Khokon, hails from the Bhairab area of Kishoreganj.
