Two people were killed and several others injured in a collision between a bus and an ambulance in Ataikula of Pabna Sadar upazila on Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as Bulu Khatun, 55, of Mahmudpur village in Santhia, and Raj Hossain, 35, the ambulance driver from North Shalgaria in Pabna municipality.
The accident occurred around 7:30am on the Pabna–Dhaka highway at Saradanghi Koraitola, Madhpur Highway Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge Mahbubur Rahman said.
Relatives were returning to Pabna from Rajshahi in an ambulance carrying the body of a child named Kear, who had died of kidney disease.
At the same time, a Pabna Express bus was heading back to Pabna from Dhaka. The two vehicles collided, killing the ambulance driver and the child’s grandmother on the spot and injuring several others.
Police later recovered the two bodies along with the child’s remains from the ambulance and sent the injured to Pabna General Hospital. The bus and ambulance involved in the accident have been seized.
