RAB-15 has rescued a four-year-old American citizen child from an attempted abduction in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
Three members of an organised gang were also arrested in connection with the incident.
The rescue and arrests took place on Tuesday afternoon during an operation at Notun Pallarpara area under Teknaf Sadar Union.
The arrested individuals are Shahab Uddin, 28, Kefaet Ullah, 24 and Abdul Razzak Mia, 35. All of them are residents of Teknaf upazila.
RAB said members of its Teknaf camp under CPC-1 were on routine patrol near Shapla Chattar when they received information that an abduction attempt was underway in Notun Pallarpara.
Acting on the tip-off, a RAB team rushed to the scene.
At the time, locals had already detained the three suspects and were beating them. RAB members rescued them from the crowd and took them into custody. The accused were later taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex and given first aid.
Citing locals, RAB said that around 12:30pm, the accused attempted to forcibly abduct the four-year-old US citizen child from in front of his uncle’s house in West Godarbil area of Teknaf Sadar Union after finding him alone on the road.
RAB handed the rescued child over to the family and sent the arrested suspects to the concerned police station for legal action.
RAB-15 Assistant Director (Law and Media) AM Faruk said the four-year-old US citizen was rescued safely following an attempted abduction in Teknaf, while three members of an organised gang involved in the incident were arrested.
