Butler shuffles pack for SAFF semi-final against Nepal

Defending champions Bangladesh have made three decisive changes to their starting line-up for Wednesday’s crucial SAFF Women’s Championship semi-final against Nepal, as the management looks to inject fresh attacking impetus and defensive stability into the squad.

Centre-back Afeida Khandaker returns to marshal the defence, while Sauravi Akanda Prity and Umehla Marma have been drafted into the starting XI.

The trio replace midfielder Monika Chakma, defender Surma Jannat, and the out-of-form winger Shamsunnahar Junior, following Sunday’s heavy defeat to India.

Afeida’s immediate reinstatement comes after she was dropped for the India fixture, a decision that ended her impressive run of 24 consecutive starts since her international debut.

Despite enduring a recent dip in form, the coaching staff has opted to bank on her defensive pedigree for this high-stakes knockout tie.

In the centre of the park, team sources confirmed that a lack of full match fitness is the primary reason behind Monika Chakma’s omission from the starting line-up.

However, the boldest tactical tweak comes on the right wing.

With Shamsunnahar Junior struggling for rhythm in recent outings, the management has handed a golden opportunity to Sauravi Akanda Prity.

The highly-rated attacker will make her first-ever start for the senior national team, tasked with providing the creative spark to unlock a resolute Nepalese defence.

The highly anticipated semi-final clash is set to kick off at 4:30PM Bangladesh Time.
