A three-day training workshop was organized for journalists of TIMES of Bangladesh to strengthen their skills in digital security, fact-checking and the use of artificial intelligence in journalism.
The workshop, held at TIMES office from 10 to 12 January, focused on the growing challenges journalists face in the digital space. Senior fact-checker at BOOM Bangladesh, Tausif Akbar conducted the workshop.
On the first day, a session titled “Cyber Security for Journalists” was conducted. This workshop focused on social media security and overall online safety. Journalists were trained on how to protect their digital accounts, personal data and sources from cyber threats.
The second day featured a workshop titled “Fact Checking for Upcoming Election Misinformation and Disinformation.” The session discussed how false and misleading information can spread during elections and how journalists can identify, verify and counter such content responsibly.
Considering the increasing role of artificial intelligence in news production, the third day focused on “AI in Journalism.” AI tools and deepfake content will have a major impact on the upcoming election. To build awareness, the workshop provided journalists with a clear understanding of AI, its risks and how it can be used ethically in journalism.
Journalists were also trained on how to identify AI-generated and deepfake content using practical detection techniques and digital tools.
The three-day workshop aimed to help journalists gain practical skills for accurate reporting, online safety and responsible journalism in today’s changing media environment.
