Thousands of devotees, scholars, and clerics gathered at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Saturday to attend the International Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Conference.
Attendees arrived from across the country on foot, by private vehicles, buses, and metro rail. The conference, which began at 9am, is scheduled to continue until midday.
Onsite reports noted that the grounds were overflowing with participants, and organisers anticipated the turnout could reach several hundred thousand, turning Suhrawardy Udyan into a “historic scene” of global Islamic unity focused on the protection of Khatm-e-Nabuwwat.
The event is being chaired by Maulana Abdul Hamid (Pir Saheb, Madhupur), convener of the ‘Sammilito Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Parishad’ and Ameer of the Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Sangrakhan Committee, Bangladesh. .
According to Maulana Mohiuddin Rabbani, one of the organisers, several prominent religious leaders from abroad are participating, including Mufti Fazlur Rahman, president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan; Maulana Sayyid Mahmood Madani, president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind (India); Maulana Hanif Jalandhari, secretary-general of Wafaq-ul-Madaris al-Arabia Pakistan; and Shaykh Abdur Rauf Makki, Nayeb-e-Ameer of the International Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Movement; Dr Ahmad Yusuf Banuri of Yusuf Binnori Town Madrasa, Pakistan; Maulana Ilyas Ghuman, Pakistan; Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani, vice chancellor of Darul Uloom Deoband, India; Dr Sheikh Musab Nabil Ibrahim of Al-Azhar University, Egypt.
More than fifty leading Bangladeshi scholars are also attending, including Maulana Shah Muhibullah Babunagari of Hefazat-e-Islam; Maulana Khalil Ahmad Quraishi of Darul Uloom Hathazari; Maulana Mahmudul Hasan, chairman of Al-Haiyatul Uliya and Befaqul Madaris Al-Arabia Bangladesh; Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque; Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim of Islami Andolan Bangladesh; and Maulana Mamunul Haque of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis.
Khatm-e-Nabuwwat refers to the Islamic belief that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the final messenger, marking the conclusion of the line of prophets sent by Almighty Allah.
