Filmmaker Akash Haque has announced the Eid-ul-Azha release of his film ‘The University of Chankharpul’, a campus-based drama exploring hall culture, student politics and the realities of university life in Bangladesh.
The release announcement came following the unveiling of the film’s trailer.
The film focuses on issues including unhealthy student politics, power struggles, ideological conflicts and the challenges faced by young people on university campuses. Akash Haque has also produced the film himself.
The cast includes Debdyuti Aich, Rocky Khan, Bobby Biswas, Akhtaruzzaman Azad, Abu Sayed, Ifad Hasan and Niloy Bala in various roles.
Speaking about the project, Akash Haque said he wanted to portray the inner realities of student politics through the film.
“Many people know about these issues, but they have not seen them closely. The story has been built by prioritising realism,” he said.
Explaining the decision to release the film during Eid, the director said audiences are more likely to visit cinemas during festive periods, making Eid an ideal time for release.
However, he also acknowledged concerns over securing cinema halls due to the release of several big-budget films during the holiday season.
According to the filmmaker, discussions are ongoing with various cineplexes, and alternative arrangements may also be considered if necessary. He added that talks have already taken place with several university film societies and foreign embassies regarding screenings.
Earlier, The University of Chankharpul was screened at the Dhaka International Film Festival, where it won the award for Best Film in the Bangladesh Panorama section.
The film also received the Hiralal Sen Medal at the Amar Bhashar Cholochitro Utshob organised by the Dhaka University Film Society.
