For Pakistan, the memories of their last Test encounter with Bangladesh are not something they want to carry into the upcoming series, which begins on May 8. After suffering a historic 2-0 defeat in 2024 August- September, Bangladesh’s first-ever Test series win over Pakistan–Shaheen Shah Afridi says, his side is focused only on what lies ahead.
Speaking ahead of the first Test of the two-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday, Shaheen said Pakistan are looking beyond that series defeat and have set their sights on bigger goals in the World Test Championship.
“The past is the past. Personally, I do not want to dwell on it. Our goal is to focus on the present and the future. We are preparing to win the championship, not just a single series. As a team, we have big goals and we are ready,” Shaheen said.
Pakistan are currently sixth in the ICC Test rankings and fifth in the World Test Championship standings. They are yet to reach a WTC final.
Shaheen also stressed the importance of improving in Test cricket, believing it will positively impact Pakistan’s performances in white-ball formats as well.
“Saifi bhai (Sarfaraz Ahmed) gave us the same message yesterday. If we perform well in Test cricket, our T20 and ODI cricket will also improve. We all agree that better performances in Test cricket will elevate our overall cricket,” he added.
